Balfour Beatty Rail has a strong background in civil construction, track installation and systems construction, including traction power, catenary, signal and communication systems. We have the ability to merge these disciplines to provide the customer with the most complete and reliable products in the industry.

 Our experienced civil group allows us to self-perform a complete array of tasks:

• track roadbed work
• highway relocation or new construction
• installation of underground duct banks
• utility relocations
• bridge construction necessary for grade separation
• foundations for both catenary poles and traction power substations.

With our experience in track installation for both transit systems and major railroads, we can schedule and sequence the work to suit each customer's needs. In addition, Balfour Beatty Rail has a wealth of experience in meeting various transit agency requirements, as well as Federal Rail Administration requirements.

Our traction power substation (TPSS) experience includes working with designers, manufacturers and local utility companies. That cooperation ensures proper engineering, coordination and timely delivery of the system. Our experience installing overhead catenary systems allows us to schedule work to optimize the installation crews' efficiency. This includes the work involved in setting poles, mounting cantilevers, installing messenger and contact wire and regulating the system.

Our experience with signal systems allows us to complete the design, procure, install, test and commission the equipment. We possess the knowledge and skills to solve challenges of any complexity when it comes to traffic signal interfaces. Balfour Beatty Rail is experienced in delivering communications systems that include full SCADA functionality with central control monitoring of station elements. These include PA/VMS, CCTV, Etel, Fire and Intrusion, as well as other system interfaces: Signal, TPSS, and Fare Collection.
