Switch/Spot Ballast Undercutting
Balfour Beatty Rail's specialized equipment provides ballast
remediation in sidings, yard applications, switches or other track
areas too small for standard undercutting equipment.
The switch undercutter uses a ditcher wheel and undercutter chain to
remove fouled
ballast from under switches, road crossings and short sections of track.
Our equipment can get to those areas where obstructions would prohibit
the use of a large production-style undercutter. Specialists can discard the fouled ballast into an airdump,
gondola-style car or into the outer track area.
