Railroad Track Maintenance and Rehabilitation

Keeping the track in good condition is one of a railroad's highest priorities. So choose the right solution for your track inspection and repair. Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. provides expert inspection, consulting and repairs that fit into your budget and furnish optimum results.

From sub-grade to finished track structure, Balfour Beatty Rail experts inspect your track structure meticulously. We can help you understand any problems with your track and guide you to a safe, economical solution. Our crews can perform the repairs themselves or you can provide your own labor.

Minimize costs by optimizing your maintenance-of-way expenditures through our asset management. Optimization extends component life, accurately identifies the components to be replaced and increases productivity of maintenance.

Crosstie replacement continues to be one of the largest areas of expenditures in maintenance-of-way, as railroads increasingly spend more on ties and less on rail. Axle loads and costs are growing as track time decreases. That's why it's more and more important to optimize maintenance-of-way costs.

Our tie gangs are trained to expertly identify bad ties based on condition and reason for replacement. These inspections help with the planning of tie renewal programs. The goal is to replace enough ties to ensure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration standards for a stipulated period.

When installing continuous welded rail (CWR), proper technique is critical. Obviously, you want to avoid serious rail breakage and stress. But it's also important that you enjoy the maintenance savings you've paid for by eliminating costly joints. Our highly skilled crews can weld new or relay rail in track or install factory-welded rail from a CWR train. We properly de-stress the CWR after installation to the correct neutral temperature, a procedure that protects the rail from stress and breakage.

If your project requires jointed rail, we will carefully install, tamp, gage and align the rail to customer specifications. We also inspect all rail joints to ensure they're tightened to the correct specifications and have the specified hardware.

When Balfour Beatty Rail is on the project, your capital costs stay at a minimum. We can purchase the used rail or offer you a credit against the project costs. Another advantage we offer is a network of regional operating centers around the United States. We're always close by, so we can provide a swift response to any problems that might arise.
