Ground Penetrating Radar
Learn about the condition of your
ballast and subgrade with a non-destructive, nonintrusive method.
Ground penetrating radar (GPR) offers you a detailed geophysical
investigation without disturbing any of the material.
Using
electromagnetic radiation, the machine emits radar pulses to create an
image of the subsurface. When they reflect back, the GPR detects the
signals. That information helps you set priorities for scheduling
ballast-cleaning requirements.
Our equipment is mounted on a
Hi-Rail truck operated by highly trained personnel. This service lets
you maximize track time and avoid costly delays in revenue train
traffic.
Our GPR equipment can record up to 20 miles per hour.
We can process and deliver the results to you within days. Use the GPR
service to detect and record:
- Ballast depth and condition
- Ballast-fouling index (BFI) and
track quality index (TQI)
- Sub-grade profile
- Conditions indicating drainage
problems
This
information is invaluable in helping you manage your ballast
maintenance budget. Balfour Beatty Rail gives you all the data to help
you plan with precision.
