The Regional Transportation District (RTD) awarded Balfour Beatty Rail,
Inc. a $63 million contract for phases one and two of the West Corridor
Light Rail Transit project. This is the first of six planned extensions
to RTD's existing rail system as part of the $7.9 billion, 119-mile
FasTracks multi-corridor program. The West Corridor project is a
12.1-mile extension to the existing 35-mile light rail system, starting
at Auraria West Station in downtown Denver and heading west to JeffCo
Station in Golden. Balfour Beatty Rail's scope of work is for the
supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the systems elements
of the project, which includes the traction power, overhead catenary
and signal systems. In addition, there is $9.8 million option for a
central control and communications
system.
