Metro Gold Line East Side Extension
Client/Owner: Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Project Start Date: July 2004
Project Completion Date : 4th quarter 2008
Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. completed the Metro Gold Line East Side Extension in
2008 in a joint venture with Steiny and Company, a Los Angeles-based
electrical contractor. Balfour Beatty Rail designed, installed and
tested all system components; including signaling, communications,
traction power and the overhead catenary system.
The project began at the southern limit of the Los Angeles Union Station, which at
the time of the contract was the last Metro Gold Line station. It
continued on at-grade for about 1.5 miles. The underground segment of
the project involved construction of two double-level underground
stations and the installation of the double track.
