Snailham Named to Leadership Role for Annual Juvenile Diabetes Walk(JACKSONVILLE,
Fla.) – The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) North Florida
Chapter recently selected Mark Snailham, vice president of Rail
Services, as corporate chairman of the 2012 Walk to Cure Diabetes in
Jacksonville, Fla.
The organization selected Snailham because
of his “impressive corporate leadership and his capability to encourage
participation,” said Brooks Biagini, executive director of the group’s
North Florida chapter. “We are thrilled with his acceptance and feel
confident that both he and his team will be a role model for other
corporate teams to follow.”
The Balfour Beatty Rail team in
Jacksonville participated in the 2011 Walk to Cure Diabetes, raising
thousands of dollars for the charitable organization.
“It’s
truly a privilege to help in such a worthy cause and we’re hoping to
have a strong turnout this year,” Snailham said. “This disease is so
devastating to so many people, including children. We’ve come a long
way in the treatment of type 1 diabetes, but much work remains.”
The
Walk to Cure Diabetes is JDRF’s signature event. It raised more than
$620,000 in Jacksonville last year, exceeding its goal. This year’s
event will take place March 24 at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds,
beginning at 8 a.m.
JDRF, the world’s leading charitable
funder of type 1 diabetes research, was founded in 1970 by the parents
of children with juvenile diabetes – a disease which strikes children
suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the
constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has
