Regional Transportation District Honors
Balfour Beatty Rail for Performance on Denver Projects

(DENVER) – The Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) recently honored Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. with two 2010 performance awards. Officials from RTD presented Joe Reed, vice president-Transit, with the award for Systems Contractor of the Year.  They also recognized Ravi Swamy, regional manager, as the Systems Manager of the Year.

RTD representatives presented the awards during a ceremony on Aug. 31. The honors were a result of Balfour Beatty Rail’s work on the Systems On-Call Services and West Corridor projects in Denver.  The officials said that both projects have been a model example of teamwork and owner-contractor relationship.

“Balfour Beatty Rail has exceeded our expectations in all aspects of the project, from safety, schedule, budget to quality and performance,” said RTD systems manager Pranaya Shrestha. “It is a pleasure to work with Joe Reed, Ravi Swamy and the rest of the professional and dedicated Balfour Beatty Rail Denver team.”

The $62 million West Corridor Light Rail Transit project is a 12.1-mile extension to an existing 35-mile light rail system. The work comprises the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the systems elements of the project. These include traction power, overhead catenary and signal systems.

The Systems On-Call Services project is a $56.3 million project made up of several individual work orders that include communications, signal, overhead catenary, traction power substations, fare collection and system-wide electrical.

“This is technical, demanding work that requires a strong working relationship with the client,” said Ray Bond, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Rail. “Joe and Ravi have provided exemplary leadership, and the entire company is proud of them. These awards demonstrate the outstanding work performed by them and their teams.”
