Former Railway Industry Woman of the Year Joins
Balfour Beatty Rail to Develop West Coast and Texas

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) –Jalene Forbis, a high-profile railroad executive and advocate, has joined Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. as director of business development for the company’s Rail Services Division in the West Coast and Texas regions.

A fifth-generation railroader, Forbis has been very active in the railway industry and her work has generated a great deal of attention over the years. In 2006, Forbis received Railway Industry Woman of the Year honors from Progressive Railroading and the League of Railway Industry Women.

Based in Sacramento and Houston, Forbis will be responsible for the strategic growth and development of the company’s construction and maintenance-of-way services for the Class 1, regional, short line, industrial and port markets. Both she and David Sprinkle, director of business development for the East Coast, will report to Mark Snailham, vice president of Rail Services for Balfour Beatty Rail.

“Jalene is very well known and well-connected among railroaders,” said Snailham. “She’s worn many hats and knows what it takes to advance a business and our industry. We look forward to having her apply her extensive knowledge and expertise on behalf of both Balfour Beatty Rail and our clients.”

Forbis began her railroad career at McCloud Railway Co. in 1992, processing loss and damage claims and doing interline accounting. She worked her way up, assuming more responsibilities with the company until she became vice president over marketing and personnel.

In her prolific industry work, Forbis serves as Pacific Region vice president of the American Short Line Railroad Association (ASLRRA) and as executive director of the California Short Line Railroad Association. She has been involved with railroad-related issues at both the state and national levels and sits on a number of ASLRRA committees, also having chaired the group’s annual convention.

Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. provides construction and maintenance services for the public and private railroad markets. The company’s services include industry-leading design, engineering, construction and maintenance for Class 1 and regional/short line freight, industrial railroads, ports, and rail transit authorities. Headquartered in Atlanta, Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. is part of Balfour Beatty plc, a global engineering, construction, services and investment business organization specializing in large infrastructure and building programs.
